How They Started

The How They Started books share detailed accounts of how well-known founders got their businesses off the ground, including where the ideas came from; how they funded their ventures; the challenges faced and lessons learned along the way, and the milestone moments and key decision points that fuelled their growth and evolution.

I interviewed and wrote chapters on Gary Frank, founder of the Fabulous Bakin Boys, for the first book, How They Started (2007), and Dame Mary Perkins, co-founder of Specsavers, for the follow-up title, How They Started in Tough Times (2010).

The How They Started books were edited by David Lester and published by Crimson Publishing.
